Rock the CASBAA

Okay, okay. Admittedly the title of this entry is a bit forced but I can't think of a clever one, given that I am just now trying to get this blog started again. So I must explain the connection: The song is from The Clash (who sang Should I Stay or Should I Go?) and CASBAA stands for Cable and Satellite Braodcast Association of Asia.

Forget the long introduction. The point really is that I am back with Cable BOSS, the leading network distributor of cable programming in the Philippines, and soon to extend throughout Asia. I had been with them between 1997 and 2001 before I took my MBA.

I saidwhen I left that I will return; thankfully, the executives took me seriously. I made the call the week I graduated and the rest is charity, I mean, history.

Should anyone need to reach me at Cable BOSS, the numbers are +62 (2) 6337361 local 144 and +63 (2) 6363522; fax is +63 (2) 6337354.

Things That Make You Go MMM

On Saturday, I watched Reportory Philippines' execution of M. Butterfly with Miguel Faustman as the maddened Gallimard. Surprisingly, my usually short attention span sustained until the end of the play. Not much to rant or rave though, except that Miguel had an American accent. As expected, there was nudity, both of male and female, but that wasn't why I didn't fall asleep.

Earlier, while waiting for the show, I hooked up with a friend of a friend. She's Mylinda of The Morning Brew: 6-9 a.m. weekdays on 103.5 K-Lite. Naturally, she picked a coffee shop. I liked her choice, Segafredo, beside Italliani's at Greenbelt 3, where the strip of drinking bars is. It was clean and well-lighted, which makes it a good sobering place, although I doubt if anybody appreciates it for that. Do check out the hot chocolate - I had two before the show.

After the show, I suggested a night cap and Pia, Jing and her friend Debbie ended up in another coffee shop - McCafe. Cute novelty: they serve coffee with brown arches on the foam.

(Do you know that you can only find one M in this entire sentence?)

Hey, Mister, that's a Go Nut!

Sorry for the long sabbatical especially since I just started this blog. Some events happened and I'm now just stabilizing myself in this new roller-coaster life.

Back to the issue of this entry:
Krispy Kreme will never be able to infiltrate the Philippine market. Not with Go Nuts Donuts doing a reverse engineering on the donut most brought home to Manila. The look, the packaging, the taste- it's Krispy Kreme. What's even better is that they've priced the local parity almost the same as the old, now commoditized DD and MD (exaggeration on commodity).

But you have to hand it to Krispy Kreme. They've managed to steal a position in the Philipines poised by Dunkin' Donuts, without even knowing it: Pasalubong ng Bayan.

Sadly, Go Nuts Donuts can be misconstrued to do what Filipinos had been famous for in the 80's - manggaya.

Kung Hei Fat Choi, brown monkey!
